Titus Andronicus starts out as a law-abiding citizen, but then his quest to right some kind of injustice sets him on a destructive path that calls into question his own morality.
In this project I am exploring the idea of starting our lives in innocence and how we may follow destructive paths that are suggested and impressed upon us by the government, society, and the media around us.
I wanted the characters to hold the illusion that they are strong/wealthy/superior/holding the government together, when in fact they are fallible. As they go deeper and deeper into insanity and ruthlessness, they shed their outer layers to reveal plain bodies. How those in power seem to show us the skeletons in our closets for us to confront, acknowledge and recognize our truths.
I imagine this production with a heavy use of media and surround sound. Theatre in the round with the audience at the center watching the action happening all around. Invasive. Use of lights to create shadows. Heads floating from the ceiling. Even those who have died are still here as known scientifically, matter cannot be destroyed.
